Allied health staff

General public and Media,

On 24th of April 2024, we held a 2 hours lecture for
Phase 1 Students of Atılım Univ. Medical School with a subject of

Globalization & Public Health

´After the transformation mask in health,
it brought the privatisation and commodifying of health services in Turkiye.

  • ´Mediator State = The Merchant State vs. Citizen = The Customer!”

In June 2003, the ruling JDP (AKP) government started out by pushing WB-IMF-EU-USA) so called
«
Health Transformation» imposed a mandatory General Health Insurance with
Premium = additional tax and traditional aim of unfair tax load was started to get forgotten.

Globalisation = New imperialism!

Public Health in Developed Countries

Dear Phase 1 Students of Atılım Univ. Medical School

All medical students,
Medical residents in different branches
Allied health staff

General public and Media

On 24th of April 2024, we held a 1 hour lecture for
Phase 1 Students of Atılım Univ. Medical School with a subject of

Public Health in Developed Countries

  • Poverty not only excludes people from the benefits of health-care systems but also restricts them from participating in decisions that affect their health.
  • The resulting health inequalities are well documented, and the search for greater equity attracts many concerned players and initiatives.
  • Fundamental to the success of these efforts, however, is the need for people to be able to negotiate their own inclusion into health systems and demand adequate health care.
  • There are strog relations between having a well established public health care system and
    being a wealthy country.

Developed countries are aware of the strong relationship between Public Health services and development. The backbone of Health Services has been defined as Public Health system.
Public Health services have been institutionalized in developed country.
Public Health institutions are scientifically free, administratively and financially autonomous.
Health Care Preparations are made with national plans against disasters.
For this purpose, it is aimed to carry out risk management, not disaster management.
At the faculty level, Schools of Public Health were established, led by a dean.
Public Health services are carried out largely with public responsibility.
Turkiye needs institutions like CDC, FAO, NIOSH, EFSA, EMA...
It is necessary to strengthen the Public Health Departments in Medical Faculties.

Epidemiology_of_Resp._Transmitted_Infections

A few tips to be kept in mind                                  :

  • Many leading causes of death receive little mainstream attention. If news reports reflected what children died from, they would say that around 1,400 young children die from diarrheal diseases, 1,000 die from malaria, and 1,900 from respiratory infections – every day.
  • Acute respiratory tract infections are the most common illnesses in all individuals,
regardless of age or gender.ØEpidemiologic surveys and community-based studies conducted since the beginning of the 20th century have determined the rates of illness and the pathogens involved in such infections.
  • Acute respiratory tract infections (ARI) are the main cause of morbidity and mortality among children aged <5 years in the developing world.
  • Respiratory viruses are spread via three different transmission routes: contact, droplet, and aerosol transmission.
  • Respiratory viruses can be transmitted via 4 major modes of transmission:
Direct (physical) contact, indirect contact (fomite), (large) droplets and (fine) aerosols.

***
As considering fight against Covid-19 pandemic, as a basicly respiratory transmitted infection, current content of slides, no doubt should be of valuable and important for all users.

Please keep in mind that                                 :

  • Family planning is the ability of individuals and couples to decide freely and
responsibly the number, spacing and timing of their children and to have
the information and means to do so.
  • Family planning promotes self-actualisation, empowerment, as well as health and well-being, and reduces maternal and infant deaths through the prevention of unintended pregnancy and unsafe abortion.
  • Family planning services include providing access to a range of safe and
effective contraceptive methods, counselling and education, pre-conception care,
screening and treatment of STIs-SRDs,infertility services, safe abortion care and
    post-abortion care.
  • Family planning is a cost-effective public health intervention that can reduce maternal mortality by 25% and neonatal mortality by 15%.
  • It can also reduce the transmission of HIV and other STIs, prevent adolescent pregnancies, improve women’s education and employment opportunities, and contribute to  environmental sustainability.
