PUBLIC HEALTH CHALLENGES in the 21st Century

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released a list of 13 urgent health challenges the world will face over next decade, which highlights a range of issues including
climate change / climate disaster and health care equity. (13 Jan. 2020)

According to WHO, the list provides an overview of “urgent, global health challenges” that WHO developed with help from experts around the world.

WHO said the challenges included on the list “demand a response from more than just the health sector,” adding, “Governments, communities, and international agencies must work together” to address these “critical” issues. (International collaboration)

US Withdrawl from WHO is unlawful and threatens global and US health and security

US Withdrawl from WHO is unlawful and threatens global and US health and security

____________________________

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Supporters,

We want to call your attention to an important new commentary published today by The Lancet.

Wafaa El-Sadr, ICAP global director, joined with prominent leaders in the global health community to raise their concerns regarding the decision by the United States to sever ties with the World Health Organization.

The authors state: “Health and security in the USA and globally require robust collaboration with WHO—a cornerstone of US funding and policy since 1948. The USA cannot cut ties with WHO without incurring major disruption and damage, making Americans far less safe. That is the last thing the global community needs as the world faces a historic health emergency.”

Please take a moment to read this article on The Lancet website, and then make your voice heard regarding this critical issue.

The message is clear. Now, more than ever before, the global community needs to stand together to overcome the COVID-19 threat and to protect and improve the lives of people around the world.
